BLITZ3d – the famous basic language with 3d engine built in – is released as FREE and OPEN SOURCE.
The only limitation – not due to BRL – is the FMOD library, that has is own licences and costs…
Personally I think – from an economic point of view – in this time this is not a great solution. Even if Blitz3d is an *old* product I suspect there are some sales and new users everytime.
Moreover the community is non dead! HardWired is a project (see Ploppy’s worklogs) that offers a modern and working 3d engine for Blit3d (and technically for other languages also).
In any case the language itself has – for today standards – too many limits. Add to this the single-platform target (windows), the uncertain about DirectX12 and the other modern engine (with shaders & co)… it seems a logic move for Mark/BRL to offer to the community everything.
